Yamanote Atelier & Matcha Japanese Zebra Cheesecake with Sesame Nougatine

Posted in Baking, Cooking, Food, Personal

Isn’t that such a long title?!
I still like it :D

So last week Nadia Masood (who also is a great food & travel blogger and wrote about our visit) and I met for breakfast at Yamanote Atelier. The place I’ve been tweeting and instagramming about for quite some time now.

I usually don’t visit a new place until its vibe is less… until the crowds lessen and until they’ve mastered their service.

Yamanote was an exception because I have been waiting for it to open for a long time. The pastries, baked good and service was impeccable from day one!

At first I thought Yamanote was a franchise from Japan and then I came to learn the it was established in Dubai. That made me even more proud!

I can eat endlessly in this place! Seriously the pastries are THAT good!
After a few visits they have already introduced new items.

Their bestseller is the Kiri Croissant and the second bestseller is the Milky Bun which I haven’t seen until last week.

We were invited to the kitchen by Allan and my oh my!
I wanted to live there… it’s a moderate sized kitchen but everything was so organised that the place seemed huge!

Chef Kuni greeted us in the kitchen along with the rest of the team who were all at work including him. Making loaves, buns, frying and rolling dough.
You can probably imagine the huge smile on my face!

You can imagine the look on my face when I saw the proofer, the fryer (which doesn’t even smell), and the huge fridge.

The one thing that really impressed me was that Yamanote doesn’t throw away any leftover food. They give to Dubai Charity. It made me even more loyal to this place.

I will leave you with the photos in a minute but before that, the visit to Yamanote Atelier’s kitchen gave me the courage to finally bake the Japanese Cheesecake I’ve been wanting to bake for the past few years!
I tweaked it a little by adding Matcha and making it a Zebra Cheesecake!

Just when I am about to hit the publish button on my post, my reader tells me you have already published yours :D

What a delightful post! Most importantly, what a fancy-sounding name for a cheesecake! I am highly impressed by your talent, mashaAllah. Is this the reason of your recent status about your family’s reaction when you bake something new? ;)

By the way, I wanted to ask you … what is the cream cheese that you use and where do you buy it from? Your cheesecake looks absolutely perfect!

Hahaha the same happened to me when I was about to hit publish, I saw a link to your review!

Yes this was exactly why my family give me a hard time when I try new things.

        I use Philadelphia cheese :)

My family’s reaction is more or less the same, so I know what you mean. They prefer the tried and tested, familiar-looking food. They are lucky to have us for giving their tastebuds the opportunities to try new things :)

Oh, I also use Philadelphia cheese. So I suppose I should start blaming myself for the failed attempts & not the cheese :D

Hi, the cake looks very good. I would like to try baking it for my dad’s birthday. May I know what is the size of the baking tin which you are using? 6 in , 8 in? Thank you !
